Being a small, family-run charity means our volunteers are essential the running of the rescue. We’re looking for enthusiastic, passionate and of course, cat loving individuals to help us in all aspects of the day to day running of the charity.
Community Fundraisers
We are currently looking for people to help develop and run new and existing fundraising activities for the rescue. This can include monetary fundraisers through car boot sales, spot the ball and events or alternatively organising bake sales or bedding and food collections in the workplace, local communities, shops, etc and liaising with our Community Fundraising Officers. Full support will be given we just need your time in the form of a few hours a month and commitment to help us create better lives for stray and unwanted cats and kittens throughout the region.
Good communication and basic computer skills and an ability to work with the existing Fundraising Team is essential for this role.
You would also be involved in the advertising, set up and organisation of our structured annual events at the rescue and locally such as our Craft Fairs.
Cat Care Assistant
This role is for those who are looking to get stuck in with the daily cleaning and grooming of the cats and kittens in our care each day. It is hot, sweaty, hard work but will save you hundreds of pounds on a gym membership each year as you won’t need one doing a shift or two a week at Sunny Harbour Cat Rescue.
This voluntary role is for the primary shift between the hours of approximately 1000hrs – 1330hrs and will involve; cleaning out cat pens (including litter trays); general tidying of cat ward; lifting; carrying; general cleaning duties; ‘re stocking; grooming and health checks of the cats.
This particular role is perfect for those who would like to learn more about cats and their health and behaviour and there is great scope to learn new skills and knowledge in cat care.
You must be diligent, observent and able to follow all instructions given and abide by the strict hygiene and safety rules in place for both the cats and your wellbeing. It is a physically demanding role and certainly much more fun than going to the gym.
There is play and cuddles with the cats built into this role however at least 80% of this role involves cleaning everything from litter trays to mopping floors and grooming the cats. If you are queasy at the sight of hairballs and cat poop this definitely isn’t the role for you!
Pre Requisites for Cattery Assistant Role
You must be a minimum of 17 years old.
Any cats that you have at home must be vaccinated and up to date with boosters as a minimum of bi annually.
You must be physically able to carry heavy objects such as a 15KG bag of cat litter, bend, kneel and climb steps.
We ask for a minimum commitment of 2 4 hour shifts per month for all roles, preferably 1 shift per week.
Although not mandatory we do ask that all volunteers help, where possible, with organised events that Sunny Harbour Cat Rescue run such as Craft Fairs, Meet & Greet, etc. This involves helping with the set up arrangements prior to events opening and also manning the event itself.
